This is my first trip to South America, and the longest bicycle ride I have ever taken, approximately 2500km (1500 miles) and two months. I am starting in Temuco, about 675km (420 miles) south of Santiago. I had intended to avoid Santiago and all its smog, but will be stopping there on the way back to give a seminar at the Universidad de Chile.
